Malaria Eradication Campaign

In Effurun Community, Uvwie LGA of Delta State we flagged off a malaria eradication campaign with the theme “Change the Narrative” The rationale the campaign outreach in South-South communities, particularly in Effurun Community of Delta State, is driven by several key public health, social, and economic considerations. Malaria remains a significant public health challenge in the community, and the community with its unique challenges in combating this disease. Here are the main reasons for malaria campaign outreach in this a

  • Endemic Nature: Malaria is the community, meaning it is consistently present in the community. The region experiences high transmission rates due to favorable environmental conditions, such as warm temperatures, frequent rainfall, and the presence of stagnant water bodies, which are breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
  • Lack of Awareness: Many residents in the communities have limited awareness about malaria prevention methods, such as the use of insecticide-treated nets (ITNs), indoor spraying, and prompt diagnosis and treatment.
  • Misconceptions: Some communities may hold misconceptions about malaria transmission, symptoms, or treatment, leading to inadequate prevention and delayed treatment, which increases the risk of complications.

During the campaign outreach, we sensitized over 250 community residents on health education and conducted basic medical tests coupled with the distribution of drugs.

Furthermore, we contribute to the overall health and economic well-being of the community, helping to build resilience against this persistent public health threat.
